Home to a prolific figure in Sri Lanka's and one of Asia's most renowned architects - Mr Geoffrey Bawa created the garden at the Lunuganga estate. His continuing work on the estate saw the landscape take up new faces through ever changing times, yet the dedicated nature-lover maintained harmony through tropical modernization and continued his experiments at the residence between Colombo and Lunuganga until his death in 2003. The estate is an oasis of calm and peace, appearing to be frozen in time. Walking around the park will offer a visitor with many alluring discoveries including private sitting areas, intricate ponds, elegant terraces, and creative platforms. Now managed by the Lunuganga Trust, the gardens are open to the public through reservation and the main premises on the estate operates as a country-house-hotel.
